I Am Where I’m Not
Inspired by the immigrant struggle of not belonging to their new home, and no longer belonging to their old.
Immigrants struggle with belonging to two nations. They want the best from the two worlds they know. Together in the one place, but they cannot have it. They struggle with never fully belonging to this nation or that nation. They float between nations and cultures.
This piece depicts an image of Valparaiso Chile on one side, and Sydney Australia on the other. Each complete image is made up of 100 smaller images. To fully appreciate each complete image, the observer must physically move from one side to the other.
They cannot view both images at the same time.
Just like the immigrant, he cannot have both.
