Living in Australia, there has always been talk about the latest influx of immigrants and how they don’t mix, or learn the language, or learn the culture, or do what “we” do. Doesn’t matter what race you are, at some point this would have been said about your race.
Interestingly, on a trip to Hong Kong last year, I visited the area on the island known as SOHO. This is where ex-pats live and hang out…and what do you know, everything was in English, the signs, the music, the shops, the language, the food, the drinks…everything. And of course the people that gathered there, were not the locals. You know how we have “Chinatown”, I’d be surprised if they didn’t call this place “Gui Lou Town”. Its the same bloody thing.
So what does this mean?
It means that we’re all the same, given the circumstances. The traits we have are not racially isolated, the traits we have, good and bad, are human. Sorry, but we’re all just as bad as each other, get over it.
I will go into this topic further in another post where I’ll discuss Racism, Discrimination, and Sticks & Stones.
